The Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club officially ushered in the 2017-2018 season with its signature Pink Polo Day and an overwhelming commitment to offer the best polo action and entertainment over the ensuring five months.
The event also served as a significant occasion to embrace the UAE’s drive for health issues like the fight again breast cancer, which is the cause of over 20 per cent of all female deaths in the country.
In keeping with the themed event, an all-girl Beverly Hills Polo team sporting pink jerseys, the feminine color synonymous with breast cancer awareness, took on the black-shirted Ghantoot Goes Pink men’s team in an exhibition match.
For the record, the girls won the match by 8 goal to 5, with HRH Princess Azemah, daughter of HM King of Brunei, delivering a star performance that saw her score a brace.
Princess Azemah was well-supported by her teammates, Germany’s Sandra Schneider, a Dubai-based PR guru, and the Argentine-pairing of pro-player Marianele Gastagnola and Marina Galarza.
Abdullah Bin Dasmal scored a hat-trick for the Ghantoot Goes Pink men’s team that also comprised, Nasser Al Shamsim, Fahad Al Qubaisi and Ahmad Buqdain.
“It was thoroughly enjoyable, even though we lost,” said Bin Dasmal. “But then again this game is not just about winning. We are all here to support the cause and to urge people to take take breast cancer campaigns like these seriously.
“The Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club are going the distance to support charities during the season while they also remain committed to hosting some of the best polo players in the world, and the UAE, during their season.”
Shaikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nayhan, Advisor to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, was the chief guest.
Her Highness Sheikha Aisha bint Rashid Al Mualla was also present together representative of the official sponsors Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), The Health Authority – Abu Dhabi (HAAD), Beverly Hills Polo Club, Premier Motors – Maserati, ADS Securities, Jannah Hotels & Resorts, Galleria Mall – Al Maryah Island, Medeor 24×7 Hospital, Al Etihad and Yas TV.
Now in its eighth year, Pink Polo Day is one of a series of charity events that will take place at the Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club, which was created by Shaikh Falah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to sustain the passion that his late father, Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, had for the regal game of polo.
Much to the delight of many those in attendance. the multi-cultural program featured a breathtaking parachute display by airborne troops from the UAE Armed Forces, a demonstration by crime sniffing dogs from the Abu Dhabi Police K-9s and a thrilling horse show.
Like the many worldwide campaigns and events that are aimed at raising awareness related to important cancer initiatives the Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club’s goal is to bring the UAE community together to support such an important health issue.
