The third edition of the Copa Art Terramar at Jose Ignacio (Uruguay) was a huge success, with Terramar Christies International Real Estate hosting the event again. This classic tournament, which combines polo with art, took place on January 4th, during the afternoon hours, with a number of well-known polo players once again in attendance at Estancia Vik, José Ignacio.
In the Copa Art Terramar match, organized by HG Polo Management, La Dolfina faced the FIAT Polo Team, with a series of notables in both teams' line-ups. Matias Magrini (8), Ernesto Gutierrez, Fernando Pigni and Juan de Dios Cincunegui formed part of La Dolfina; while Martin Barrantes/Sebastián Vik, Santiago Garrahan, Nachito Pieres and Facundo Pieres (10) represented FIAT Polo Team. At 19 years old, Facundo Pieres is the world's youngest player to have reached the 10-handicap mark.
The FIAT outfit narrowly won the match, 4-3, with Facundo Pieres scoring three of the team's goals, and Nacho Pieres the remaining one, while
Ernesto Gutierrez scored two goals and Juan de Dios Cincunegi scored one for La Dolfina.
Prior to the Copa Art Terramar, the Copa Lady Godiva, for ladies' teams, took place as from 4 p.m., with the Hola Argentina team trouncing Verano Magazine 6-0. The respective line-ups were as follows: Hola Argentina, with Emmanuelle Ougier (FRA), Stephanie Haverhalst (HOL), Loli and Cata Bunge (URU), and Verano Magazine, with Natascha Baecher (HOL), Camila Rossi (ARG), Ginevra Visconti (ITA) y Delfina Busquet (ARG).
Art & Solidarity
During the matches, the solidarity campaign went ahead, as it does during each edition of the event, with the collection of funds for local schools. Four artists, in charge of decorating Estancia Vik, Turrell, Seveso, Trujillo and Badaró completed a life-size, solidarity horse, with Kike Badaró acting as curator, and in which the visitors deposited their contributions.
After the donations, there was a raffle among the contributing visitors, with the first prize consisting in a two-day stay for two people at Estancia Vik, approximately worth 4.000 dollars.
Among the notables attending the Copa Art Terramar were Princess Laetitia D'Arenberg, and Alex and Carrie Vik, owners of Estancia Vik, Gustavo Burone, the president of the Asociación Uruguaya de Polo, Andrés Rossi, Argentinian polo ambassador, Patricio Lobos, a director of Telefónica, who played one chukker for the FIAT outfit, model Jimena Buttigliengo, and one of the best international female polo players, Holland's Natascha Baecher.
Party at The Setai, this Saturday
Just like each year, after the Copa Art Terramar, the Fiesta del Polo at The Setai tent will go ahead, at José Ignacio, on the evening of Saturday, January 7th. This party is a huge reunion for all polo players, sponsors and the main guests.
This tournament, together with the Copa Lady Godiva, which takes place prior to the Copa Art Terramar, forms part of a polo agenda promoted by the Asociación Uruguaya de Polo, and has been declared of Touring and Cultural interest.
