Friday, August 26th saw Argentina's high-handicap spring polo season get under way, with the opening day of the first round corresponding to the ladies tournament (with handicap) of the Club Hípico Militar San Jorge.
La Ensenada defeated Fluido Manchester 18-11, while María Ona defeated San Jorge 19-10. In both matches, the losing teams received 10 handicap goals.
Six female teams are taking part in the tournament, with handicaps of between 3 and 21 goals, and with the final due to take place at Palermo. Next matches on the schedule will be played on Saturday 27th: Fluido Manchester vs. Namuncurá Sancor Seguros, and San Jorge vs. La Varzea Speed.
The classic Open championship (Duke of Edimburgh Trophy) and the Handicap (Copa Coronel Francisco reyes Carrere) for men begin on Sunday, August 28th. The fixtures are as follows: Fluido Manchester vs. Halls, Miralejos Provincia de Buenos Aires vs. Equidiet, and Hydrabab Chaugan vs. Río Grande La Merced. There are seven teams taking part in the event (handicaps between 16 and 19 goals), and the final will also be played at Palermo.
