Argentina - Ladies Polo
Passion for the sport: The 1st Ladies Polo Tour
Four players, good friends all of them, drove 6,000 kilometres on a pickup truck, doing exhibitions from Buenos Aires and Río de Janeiro
It sometimes may sound as if one is repeating oneself by saying that ladies polo is ever-increasing around the world, and that the ladies are each time more taken into account at the time of planning some of the leading tournaments.
But what happened between the months of May and June this year deserves to be told, as it gives further proof that the girls are also very passionate about this, the sport of kings.
In this case, we are talking of the 1st Ladies Polo Tour, which Anabel McNought Davis, Samantha Perrusi, Carla Horeyco and Marianela Lagomarsino went ahead with. What is most outstanding is the way in which things took place: These four ladies, aboard a pickup truck, drove 6,000 kilometres from Buenos Aires to Río de Janeiro, doing several exhibitions along the way and coming home with many anecdotes firmly etched in their memories.
Samantha Perrusi, a member of the Ladies Polo Sub-Commission of the Asociación Argentina de Polo, says that the objective of this event was to promote and take part in the gowth and development of ladies polo. The proposal was a simple one: to share with other people the passion they feel for polo and to trigger the development of this sport in neighbouring countries.
Along the way there were a number of planned halts, bearing in mind those places were polo is most played in Brazil.
The first stop was Uruguayana, a city located on the border between Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. The girls had only thought of doing an exhibition there, but the people of the Club del Círculo Militar de Quaraí invited them to form part of a low-handicap tournament which was due to take place at the time they were there.
The next destination was Indaiatuba, and finally they arrived at Río de Janiero, where the four members of the Ladies Polo Tour again gave proof of their abilities in a city where polo es developing rapidly.
Finally, there were also visits to the cities of Guará, Franca and Orlandia.
Having returned to Argentina, the girls had also planned to show their horsemanship in the provinces of Misiones and Corrientes. Unfortunately, the weather did not help matters and the exhibitions were not able to go ahead in those places.
