Robyn Ferguson: “A tournament like this one is wonderful for generating interest in female polo”
With one day remaining prior to the start of the CaRRoL BoYeS Ladies Cup, Robyn Ferguson says that the tournament due to take place at Val de Vie, South Africa, will call the attention of even more women
The CaRRoL BoYeS Ladies Cup, the first important female polo tournament to be played in Cape Town, South Africa, is revolutionizing the local polo scene. The Val de Vie Polo Club is due to host this unique event.
Robyn Ferguson, one of the girls who will competing for honours as from tomorrow, in her case as part of the Patron Properties / Val de Vie lineup, answers our questions:
-When did you start playing polo? How long ago?
-I started playing polo in 2006.
-Where do you usually train or play?
-I mostly train at the Ostrich Ranch, but every now and then I go to Val de Vie and to the Cape Hunt & Polo Club.
-What are your expectations concerning the 2010 CaRRoL BoYeS Ladies Cup?
-I hope that this event will be a success and that it will become an annual fixture in the South African Polo Calendar. I think that an event like this will be great for bringing awareness to Women’s Polo in Cape Town and that in the future we can allow for the event to include more girls from up-country and maybe some international ladies as well.
-What are your views on the South African and international women’s polo scenes?
-From what I have read, I think that it is fantastic that Women’s Polo is growing and that there is such an awareness and promotion of it. I hope that in the future, we will be able to host an International Ladies Tournament in Cape Town because I feel that we have the facilities, the horses and the support to do just that.
-Who is your favourite polo player? And female player?
-I think that like every other female on earth, I would have to say Cambiaso and lady player, Nina Clarkin.
-Which other tournaments will you be competing in this season?
-I would like to continue to play locally, at Val de Vie, etc, but I am hoping to conclude the season with the Cape Champs in the middle of April.
