Rain causes delays at Intendente Alvear
Postponements in Copa Horacio Heguy and Copa Gonzalo Heguy, in La Pampa province, Argentina
On Thursday, February 4th, the town of Intendente Alvear, in La Pampa province, Argentina, started hosting a tournament open to teams with handicaps between 26 and 29. The Copa Horacio Heguy and the Copa Gonzalo Heguy are being played for, in rememberance of Horacio Heguy and his son Gonzalo, both of whom contributed so much towards Argentina’s polo scene, and were part of one of the sport’s pioneering families.
With six teams competing for honours, divided into two zones, the opening day saw Chapa Bar defeat Anay Sur 10-6, and La Gitana do the same against Puerta Abierta 8-6. However, heavy downpours in that region of Argentina led to the postponement of Friday’s two matches: Malapata vs. Anay Sur, and El Remanso vs. Puerta Abierta. No replacement date has yet been announced for these two clashes, and the bad news is that more rainfalls are being forecasted for the forthcoming days.
This event is taking place at the Chapaleufú Polo Club and is supported by the Asociación Argentina de Polo. It is the first high-handicap meeting of this year, and on Sunday, which (weather permitting) should be the day in which the finals take place, the Copa Amistad will also be up for grabs, apart from the handicap title. This means that the six outfits will have their days filled with action throughout the weekend.
