A Celebration of British Luxury Brands in the UAE presided over by His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Suroor Al Nahyan and His Excellency Philip Parham, British Ambassador.
Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club, Abu Dhabi– Presented by Chelsea Barracks and hosted by the Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club, British Polo Day celebrated its 65thglobal event in Abu Dhabi. In advance of the first British Polo Day in New York this summer, the invitation-only event is delighted to be back in the UAE, before completing the Middle Eastern leg in Dubai.
British Polo Day is an unparalleled platform celebrating the history and heritage of polo with a global community, bringing together the world’s top companies and key influencers. It provides a platform for business in emerging and growth markets, giving partners enviable access to international contacts.
Returning to Abu Dhabi for the 9thtime, British Polo Day Abu Dhabi pitted 4 teams against each other for the VistaJet Ghantoot Cup and the British Polo Day Plate. Over 250 top British and international players have played at British Polo Day since its inception, and this year attracts well-known names in the polo world, such as number one female player in the world Nina Clarkin and her husband, Captain of the New Zealand polo team JP Clarkin, and Faris Al Yabhouni, Captain of Team Abu Dhabi.
In the now legendary Camel Polo, the Hackett Cavalry Team were roundly beaten 7-1 by the Rosewood Abu Dhabi Guards Team. The first polo match saw a 4 all draw between Ghantoot II (VistaJet) and Oxbridge (Chelsea Barracks). As the seconds were counted down by official British Polo Day timekeeper Jaeger Le Coutre, the Royal Salute British Exiles were defeated by Ghantoot I by 5 goals to 4 in a fast-paced contest, and one which all agreed was the best polo match ever played on the British Polo Day calendar. VIP Guests then enjoyed a private dinner and a Charity Auction, which raised AED 100,000 Dirhams in aid of WAHA International, established by Her Highness Sheikha Shamsa bint Hamdan Al Nahyan in a response to the unacceptably high maternal and neonatal mortality rates in many parts of Africa and Asia.
Tom Hudson, Chairman of British Polo Day said: “British Polo Day is incredibly honoured to be returning to Abu Dhabi for the 9thyear running. It’s a matter of great pride that the UAE is the UK’s largest export market in the Middle East, and the 13thbiggest globally, with a trade target that both countries hope to double to £25 billion (Dh140.60bn) by 2020. The great base of partners – with over 2,000 years of combined heritage between them – says so much about the relationship building opportunities that British Polo Day creates. The CEO Ben Vestey and I are extremely proud that this event is taking place during the Year of Zayed, at a time of increasingly blossoming relations between UAE and the UK. So many exciting technological innovations are happening here, and we look forward to many more years of being at the heart of the action in UAE.”
“Our customers expect the most extraordinary experiences at the highest standards,” explains Ian Moore, Chief Commercial Officer at VistaJet. “Our customers’ passions become our passions and supporting them is a cornerstone of the VistaJet brand.
